The surprise and excitement of getting an engagement ring, no matter what the design, is a moment to remember. After that, there are a myriad of decisions that have to be made regarding the upcoming wedding, and the choice of wedding bands is one such important decision. You may not have had any say in the choice of the diamond ring, but now you have to find a band that matches it. Here are some things to keep in mind, to make that decision a bit easier.
Pick a Similar Metal Setting
Gold is an easy choice for a wedding band, but may not work well with hard metals like tungsten or platinum. Besides the obvious difference in color, the hardness of these metals makes it more likely to wear away at the gold in the wedding band, which is a much softer metal. If your engagement ring has a gold setting, pick gold for the band too. If it is platinum, although much more expensive, try to stay with the same metal. The only time that changes is when your budget won't allow it. If that's the case, you can pair white gold with platinum and they will have a similar color range. It saves money, but it will need a bit more care to maintain it for the many years to come.
Special Considerations for Multi-Stoned Rings
Were you lucky enough to get a three stone diamond ring? If so, it may come as a surprise when you try to match the wedding band that it doesn't lie flush with the other ring. In cases like that, you can order a custom band so that it looks like more of a united pair. If you have your heart set on a multi-stone diamond ring, try to have your beloved pick one that comes with a matching band already. If he doesn't get the hint and it's already too late, try to match it with an unconventional band, like a diamond eternity ring to successfully compete and hold its own with the multi-stoned ring. It may take a little more time to find just the right fit with such a dramatic engagement ring, but it will be worth it in the end.
